Lancaster spinout Mindgard raises $30m to secure enterprise AI
The AI security company, spun out of Lancaster University and now split between London and Boston, has closed a €26 million Series A led by Album VC.
Mindgard has raised €26 million, or $30 million, in a Series A round.
The company sells security tooling for enterprise AI systems. It began as a spinout from Lancaster University and now operates from London and Boston.
Album VC led the round. Karma Ventures joined, alongside existing backers including .406 Ventures, Atlantic Bridge and IQ Capital.
Mindgard says the money will go on product, engineering, sales and marketing, and that it is scaling in response to customer demand. It has not published customer numbers or revenue.
The shape of the company is the part worth noting. The research came out of a British university; the sales operation now sits on both sides of the Atlantic, with Boston named first in the company's own description of itself.
That is a familiar pattern for founders raising at this stage in security software. The buyers with budget for AI risk tooling are largely American enterprises, and investors tend to fund a US presence early rather than later.
For a founder with university IP and a UK base, the practical question is when that second office stops being optional. Mindgard's round suggests the answer, at Series A, is roughly now.
